WHAT IS GEOTECHNIA?
Geotechnics is the science that studies soil mechanics and rock mechanics, as well as the geology and hydrology of these elements, to evaluate their stability when submitted to the implantation of engineering works or to avoid natural disasters involving them. The Geotechnical Engineer is the one who designs the foundations of buildings, bridges, highways, oil platforms, embankment containment, land dams, analyzes the stability of natural slopes and among many other related assignments the technologies and the safety of the captivating and challenging materials that are the soils and the rocks.
WHO WE ARE
Inspired by experiences in foreign universities and motivated by the need for space to discuss Geotechnics within the Civil Engineering course, the Geotechnical Studies Group (GEGEO) of the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) was created in early 2016 by undergraduate students , graduate and teachers.
With the main objective of positively impacting graduation courses and the external community, improving higher education and publicizing the importance of Geotechnics, GEGEO is a catalyst for opportunities for its members - undergraduate and graduate students - to acquire knowledge and experience in the various aspects of Geotechnical Engineering.
The activities and projects developed by the Group are guided by the research, teaching and extension triad, seeking to contribute to the professional and citizen training of its members beyond the classroom. Today, GEGEO is an Extension Program of UFPR.

Rodas de discussão e elaboração de materiais didáticos para aprofundamento do conhecimento na mecânica dos solos e suas aplicações.
INICIAÇÃO CIENTÍFICA
Desenvolvimento de pesquisas laboratoriais para melhoria das características mecânicas e hidráulicas de solos de Curitiba e região.

Projetos e orientações técnicas gratuitas para solucionar problemáticas geotécnicas enfrentadas em comunidades socioeconomicamente vulneráveis.
GEOPREVENTION
Elaboração de materiais e atividades didáticas para conscientização ambiental da população sobre riscos geotécnicos: os mecanismos envolvidos e como evitá-los.
DESAFIO DE TALUDES
Competição entre equipes de diferentes universidades brasileiras no projeto e na execução de um modelo reduzido de terra armada.
CONSULTORIA
Projetos de obras geotécnicas e ensaios laboratoriais em parceria com Empresas Juniores.
